Royal Corinthian

Square Non-tapered Columns

Square Non-Tapered Columns

Royal Corinthian manufactures square non-tapered columns from 4 composite materials: RoyalCast™ Composite FiberglassRoyalStone™ Synthetic StoneRoyaLite™ FRP Lightweight Fiberglass, and RoyalWrap™ PVC. We only offer porch columns that last for generations. If you know which material you need and are looking for available sizes and specifications, then you are at the right place. If you would like to learn more about each material and the advantages of using one over the other, please call for a quick run through or find a comparison chart on our columns page. For sizes and specifications of PVC column wraps, please go to non-tapered PVC column wraps. Our non-tapered square columns are available from widths of 6” to 25” and some span up to 26 feet in height.  As usual all of the sizes below are available in all of the materials that we offer. Even though we offer all of our square non-tapered columns in every material, some of the specifications in the charts below only apply to certain materials.

For example, there are different load bearing capacities for our RoyalCast/RoyalStone columns as compared to our load bearing RoyaLite columns (see appropriate chart). Our RoyalCast and RoyalStone columns are spun-cast so the hole inside the shaft is circular (see the cut views below). Our RoyaLite columns are made as halves with a lap joint, except for our load bearing RoyaLite pultruded column shafts which are made as a single piece using a pultrusion process. It is important to note, however, that all of our RoyaLite square columns can be made as 2 halves and factory assembled to bear weight, although the weight they bear is significantly less than column shafts that are made from one piece. For RoyaLite columns that are factory assembled rather than made as one piece, we do not offer load bearing specifications. All of our capitals and bases are made from the same material as the shaft except for the pultruded fiberglass columns. Since it is impossible to make complex capitals and bases using pultrusion technology, these caps and bases are made from a poly/marble composite material much like our composite fiberglass products but without fiberglass strand.

*Load bearing capacities and average wall thicknesses apply only to RoyalCast and RoyalStone; Royalite FRP column covers are thinner and only bear weight when factory assembled. 14″, 16″, and 24” Columns have an astragal and capital support ring that is part of the shaft. The astragal is 8″ and the support ring is 4-1/2″ from the top of the 14″ column, 9″ and 5-1/8″ from the top of the 16”, and 14-5/16” and 7-1/8” from the top of the 24”. Astragal and or support ring can be removed.

Pultruded columns, though thin, are very robust as indicated by the load bearing capacity. In addition to these load bearing RoyaLite columns, all of the RoyaLite column covers in the first chart at the top can be assembled to bear some weight.
